Re: Warning to E owners (or those who may be thinking about
Thanks for the replies and kind words. I have at least 8-10" of good sub in a 55 gallon tank, which might have been ,and was, fine for pp's, but for the overactive E's, knowing now what I do, well, I would have just put them alone to begin with, but I think they need a lot more room, both above and ...

Warning to E owners (or those who may be thinking about it)
Hi, everyone! It has been a long time since I have been on here...as usual, life got in the way. Mainly, caring for my elderly mother, who finally passed last September. I am just now getting back into my crabbing again, even though I was caring for them, I wasn't really spending any significant tim...

Ecuadorian with eggs?!!
I was watching the crabs last night, and my one big Equadorian always sits in the corner, pulls himself (herself?!) partly out of the shell to clean with her cleaning appendage. I don't know why this process is so fascinating to watch, but I am always entranced by it! So While watching last night, s...

Re: Crabitat - Build in Progress
This is just my opinion, so take it as you want....but those pools are way too big for that tank. They will hardly have any room to roam. How about a couple of Tupperware containers instead? That was they can still have pools they can swim in, and lots of ground to play? Other than that, it is beaut...

Once they start dropping limbs, it is usually impending death. But it is nothing you have done.
I have bought several crabs from Petsmart, and one thing I do is find out what day they receive their crabs, then buy that day. Seems to help.

No, actually, living in a humid state, I can assure you that high humidity RAISES heat!
How about aiming a full size fan at the outside of the tat? Also, I imagine on of the Aussie members can help.

Spiderman crab trick!
I was lurking at the 29 gallon last night, watching crabs eat, and saw the 2 air lines that run from the back of the tank into the front pools moving. One of my larger crabs had smelled the fresh food and was moving in. Somehow, he decided that he needed to speed up his descent, so he wrapped his cl...

Mid to high 70's is ok, but at least on my case, my crabs do NOTHING except sleep until the temp gets above 80, and especially mid 80's.

Natural peanut butter and some honey will also do wonders for him. As well as other high quality dry food. I gave up on fruits except for an occasional treat. They don't seem to like them near as much as their dry food, and it attracts bugs.

Re: PARALYSED HERMIT CRAB?
Wow! He really needs to be out of that she'll, in my opinion. Of course he can't walk...his belly is so smushed in there, he can't get his legs fully out! I wonder if he got stuck at some point and quit trying to get out?? If there was a way to break the shell from around him without hurting him, an...

My humidity goes to 99 percent after I mist, and the crabs love it. I never try to get it back down.

Re: Swimming Naked
Could he have just lost the shell when he was climbing out? When mine soak in the pools, it seems like their shells, now full of water, are so heavy. I am amazed that more don't come out naked! At least he reshelled.

Re: I sure hope everything is good with my little ones...
My crabs never really eat too much fresh fruits and veges, and it always seemed to go bad and attract insects. I started buying dried food from the Hermit Crab Patch, plus their favorite Honey nut cherries, and they eat ALL the time now. I give them a treat once a week or so....a piece of fresh coco...
