New Crab Experiences- Big & Little?
So a little while ago I posted a thread about introducing my old and lonely (4 years alone!!) OG crab (Lazarus) to another pretty sad little guy (Beetleguise) in my 20gal tank and was looking for some advice. I was worried that years of isolation may have left them aggressive but to my delight both ...

Re: Thermo/hydrometer suggestions?
thanks for the suggestions! I've been so bad and took forever to replace my thermo/hydrometer, luckily my guys are both molting so it's not too bad. I'm going to look out for these brands when I get myself to the petstore. I'm just still in shock that I managed to saturate my tank so badly I broke a...

Thermo/hydrometer suggestions?
Could any more experienced crabbers recommend be a good thermometer/hydrometer that would work well in a 20gal but also work in a larger tank? Preferably analog and inexpensive. I was using a Bios Weather meter for maybe 4 months but I think the humidity in my tank killed the electronics. Thanks!! :...

Re: Two lonely crabs finally get a friend! I have a new crab
Would it be prudent to take out Laz's favorite shell that he's not wearing for a while, boil and return in a week or so? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Beetleguise is already in that shell, unfortunately, but so far they seem to be getting along fine. The shell Lazarus is in now fits him far be...

New crab coming far out of shell, but not leaving shell?
I just introduced a crab that had been alone for a while to my own lonely crab last night. They were getting along fine, but the new crab took a shell that my old crab tends to like (he switches around a lot) They've been head to head for the last hour or so, I assumed figuring out the crabby hierar...

Re: pros and cons of a plastic tub for a crabitat
hmm maybe I should do that next year instead of trying to lug my 20 gallon back and forth to college! I finally got it to the right depth of substrate and it's sooooo dang heavy!

Florida Marine Research Shells/ Where to get good shells?
I was wondering if any more experienced crab owners have used these products? They seem to be the most popular items at pet stores (and by popular I mean the ONLY crab supplies for most things). I got two packages of large shells from them, and was given another by someone else. The shells were vari...

Two lonely crabs finally get a friend! I have a new crab and
I had a very lonely hermit for the last few years, I bought him in a pair but his brother died, and once I learned WHY (I didn't have the appropriate resources to care for multiple crabs) I didn't want to go out and get another crab until I had everything right. So Lazarus has been alone for 4 years...

Soil for substrate?
I've read on some sites that soil can be used as substrate for crabitats as long as it's pesticide/fertilizer free, but this forum doesn't mention it and I was wondering if theres a reason? I've had my medium crab on soil mixed with sand for a while and he seems to like digging in it.

introducing new crabs to an old lonely hermit.. Advice?
I've had this medium sized crab (he's maybe a golf ball and a half) for 4 years now. He had a partner but unfortunately it died while molting in the middle of my move to college two and a half years ago. I've actually only recently learned the proper way to care for hermit crabs (beach tourist crab ...
