I agree with above, the substrate does look slightly shallow. But other than that, your tank looks good!

Thank you! They do seem to enjoy it! Both of my straws went down and have been molting since I put them in (almost a month ago!). The small PPs have been running the tank ever since!

My lid is mesh too! I have the hood lid from the 20 gallon on top of the mesh lid, and then two and a half layers of tin foil on either side to try and keep the heat in. I may have to try insulating the back over the heating pads too. I'm seriously thinking about going out and buying another heating...

I mixed mine right in the tank. I used a bit more than 2 bricks of EE and 2 bags of play sand and got about 8-9 inches of substrate in my 35 gallon. I soaked 1 Brick of EE really well, and poured that ahead in the tank. Then I poured one whole bag of playsand and mixed it all up with my hands. Then ...
