Re: So it's been a while...
I got the baskets with an adoption. The longer rectangle baskets are great for smaller crabs. They seem to feel secure in them. My big crabs sleep in the square basket every day. It's pretty adorable lol. Lol...I recognize those long rectangular baskets! I rehomed Jeff and Jerry with you, and am SO...

Re: New 20-gallon tank
Looks great! You've got my brain ticking, lol... You may want to consider leaving out the sponge; they need to be sanitized daily (not just rinsed) to keep away the icky bacteria they grow. Plus they don't really help much with humidity or anything unless they are huge. Thanks, Kleiner. Consider th...

Re: New 20-gallon tank
Can you post a clearer picture of the aquarium log-spice rack creation? I love the idea and would like to give it a try for the 29g. Here you go! First the front view, minus blueberry branches. (I added another pirate ladder today. Jeff really likes climbing them.) http://i.imgur.com/iN98D7F.jpg No...

New 20-gallon tank
Just moved my PP pair from a 10-gallon tank to a 20-gallon! I made this hiding/climbing structure by tying an aquarium log to a Dollar Store spice rack. The plastic "rope" is from an old Fisher-Price pirate ship, and the blueberry branches are from my back yard (pesticide free). http://i.imgur.com/c...

Re: What to do when crabs are fighting?
Thanks, Calla, Corn, and Wode. I considered everything y'all said and tried some of it. Am holding the dunking in reserve to use if things escalate again--but I'm happy to say that the crabs seems settled and aren't squabbling so much now. They face off every so often, but there've been no recent th...

Re: Help identify species?
Well, yeah. Duh. If I'd've thought for half a second...
I guess they look bigger because they switched to bigger shells. Not being cramped, they're freer to slip partway out and rare up, then slide back in at will. So I'm seeing them more often...and more of them.

Re: What to do when crabs are fighting?
Thanks, Wode. I tried squirting Jerry, the aggressor, today as a possibly-gentler alternative to dunking. He immediately retreated to another corner of the tank and didn't try to start up with Jeff again. We'll see how it goes. I'd love to hear how some others handle such squabbles. Chime in, please...

Re: Help identify species?
Thanks! Interesting (to a newbie like me) that there can be such variation in color. Actually, their color has deepened since we got them, which makes me think they might have been missing some essential element in their diets... :( They also seem to have grown. Is that possible in just 3-4 weeks? H...

Help identify species?
At first I thought I had an Ecuadorian and a Purple Pincher. Then it turned out my supposed Eccie was a PP, so I thought I had two PPs. Now someone has suggested Jeff (the one on the left) is actually a Viola. What do y'all think? BTW they've switched to unpainted shells now, but this is the cleares...

What to do when crabs are fighting?
When your crabs start going at each other, what do y'all do? Do you separate them? Put one in ISO? Or just leave them alone and let them work it out? The specifics of my case: I have two PPs (I think), got them about 3 weeks ago, and they're in a 10-gallon tank with 7 inches of substrate. The tank c...

Love it! I especially love the way you've taken ordinary items and made something so beautiful! Room to climb, burrow, climb, and burrow some more...ah, what a life.

Wow! Most impressive. What are the dimensions of your tank? And please indulge this newbie by explaining the purpose of a false bottom.

Maybe he wondered if you were crocheting him a hammock. Or a set of teeny weeny crab socks.
