I say you should just buy some more shells, the cost for that is what you can use to buy 3 more shells in types that they would prefer and are better quality. Plus I believe that even when you fill the holes its not as smooth as a normal shell would be.

There's no way to tell the gender from here, the way to tell their gender is to look under them and on the last pair of legs if theirs a dot it's a girl, if it has no dot it's a boy. I know it's confusing so there's probably a sticky somewhere about it that you can read and see pictures.

Is the wood hide you have on the 2nd level pine? Make sure it's not because it can be harmful to the crabs. Great crabitat btw

Crab-safe wood sealeant?
When people build the wooden crabitats how do they seal the wood? What is safe to use for that? Someday I would like to build myself a custom crabitat so I'm researching about it.
