Salinity
Does anyone know what the salinity of hermit crabs saltwater should be? I have always followed the directions on the box to a T; today I bought a hygrometer(hydrometer?) that suggested the saltwater should measure 1.020-1.026. Mine was crazy high off the chart, and I had to add A LOT of fresh water ...

Cloudy glass
Hi all, just a quick question here. In November I purchased a used glass aquarium. It had a ring of calcium/ lime on the inside. I tried scrubbing it with hot water, to no avail. Several sites said vinegar or a chemical cleaner, but I was uncomfortable using that. I finally settled on lemon juice, w...

Streaking, dead or surface molt?
Thanks so much for replying! After a nose to the glass, flashlight inspection, I saw a little pale claw tucked into the very back of the shell i cut a 2 liter and put it around him with salt & fresh water & food. SOOO relieved! Thank goodness for this sight!! When I was telling my hubby about it, hi...

Boiled shells and did a full surface cleaning.
Yesterday I set up a new tank and integrated my PP's and New Eccies who were in ISO. They seem to be kind of......fighting/wrestling. It's PP's against Eccies. Is this normal? Do they just have to get used to eachother? Thanks!

Shipping Hermies During Winter
I ordered from a sight (in summer), but the package did not ship until December. The person put 3 small/medium size Eccies in a burlap sack, tied, loosely packed with wet moss. They then had a wad of paper towel (or newspaper, I don't recall exactly) on either side, one of those disposable hand warm...

Calcium?/lime? scale buildup
I got a used tank yesterday that had a whitish, chalky looking ring around the inside. I tried a scrub brush and hot water without much luck. In my Google searchings, all the posts I read said chemical cleaner or vinegar. I didn't wNt to use either one. I did end up finding a post that said to try s...

New tank pictures :)
Your 'tat looks great! Instead of sponges, I use the glass decorative 'rocks' from the Dollar Store. I just put a few in the middle. But if you have a dish you bought from the reptile section that is a little rough, they'll be able to cling to the sides and get out. For a second level, I got a shall...

New, larger tank!
So, I don't want to brag, but today I got a 29 gallon tank off Craigslist for $15!!!!!!!! I was so excited- I had just priced it at Petsmart for $85(and that was the sale price). I filled it with water for a stress test and it passed. My question- how many small- small/ medium hermies are comfy in a...
