Re: My newest crab has been missing for nearly a month
Okay, gotcha. Keeping the temp around 80 might help and, of course, be better for the crabbos - gotta recommend bringing the temp up... can you insulate more? If you add a bubbler, its more effective at bringing up humidity with deeper pools. The problem with spraying a lot is that the water can be...

Re: My newest crab has been missing for nearly a month
Prior to misting, what's the typical humidity in the tank? Dry sub is less likely (though may still happen) in tanks with all-the-time high humidity. When I kept a ten gal, maintaining humidity was hard. Also, what kind of lid are you using, and do you use bubblers in your pools? No bubblers. The h...

Re: My newest crab has been missing for nearly a month
So as the subject says my newest crab has gone missing. I do not know where he is. When I first got him he immediately changed shells and dug a hole. He's since changed holes but now he's vanished from said hole(I could see him in there from the surface), and I can't find any sign of digging elsewh...

Re: Inactive crabs?
1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? A eco Earth and sand mix, about fifty fifty. Sandcastle consistency. Six to seven inches depending on the area. 2. Do you have gauges in the tank to measure temperature and humidity? If so, where are they located and what temperature...

Re: Inactive crabs?
They may be destressing still, and finally slowing down as they acclimate. Or possibly theyre becoming lethargic in readiness for a moult. Do you want to fill out the emergency template so we can go over the answers & see if anything might be amiss? Also, temps below the 80s might sometimes slow th...

Inactive crabs?
So I've had Rikki, Tikki, and Tavi for about a two and a half weeks. At first they were fairly active, exploring and eating. One of them dug down to destress but came back after a couple days. Everyone of them has changed shells as well. But three days ago they suddenly stopped. All of them are hidi...

Re: New crab won't move?
She switched hiding spots and shells last night but I'll still put some shrimp in there. It'll be a nice treat for all three of them.
Thanks for your help

Re: New crab won't move?
It just smells like wet dirt. Not fishy at all so I know she's still alive.

New crab won't move?
So I got three hermit crabs about two and a half weeks ago. Two of them, Rikki and Tavi, are doing really well. Both eating and fairly active. My third one isn't active at all though. Tikki is her name and the first two nights she was very active, climbing all around the cage. Then she just stopped ...

Re: Hanging out of shell PPS
He died a few hours ago but thank you for the advice anyway. Hopefully the two others I bought along with this one won't have any problems.

Hanging out of shell PPS
I just bought three hermit crabs and while two seem to be doing well, one isn't. He's hanging half out of his shell and I'm not sure what I should do. When I first put him in he was partially out, but now he's almost fully out.
Is there anything that I can do for him?

Re: How many crabs in 27 gallons?
Alright, thanks for the advice. I think I'll get two and then let my sister get one as well. Hopefully they'll all get along well and I won't have to worry about rehousing them for awhile.

I have also have seven inches of substrate, leaving about 13 inches of height for them to climb about on.
