Re: Big Claw has fallen off my Hermit crabs!
Be totally hands off- they are prey animals. Handling will only stress him/her out more. Survival is unlikely ~ but it can happen. Hermits can regrow limbs. Not familiar with that product. Is it the jug that you mix with fw? If so~ that is a really expensive way for msw. Plus IO has been trusted fo...

Re: Big Claw has fallen off my Hermit crabs!
Guys. Poor Hermes passed away today, likely not too long before I arrived home. By the time I had checked on him, he had lost the entirety of his walking legs. My tank also had begun to smell. By this point I knew he had passed, and my suspicion was confirmed when I had smelled the Hermit Crab himse...

Re: Big Claw has fallen off my Hermit crabs!
snip snip Even sadder news. He's dropped yet another. My once lovely decapod, now reduced to 7 limbs. I'm aware that at this point, survival is impossible. Should I attempted to remove the severed appendages? The poor thing seems to still be alive :( Heres an address to your suggestions with water,...

Re: Big Claw has fallen off my Hermit crabs!
Can you fill this out? http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=46102 Sent from my LGMS550 using Tapatalk Sure 1. What kind of substrate is used in your tank and how deep is it? Sand; mostly home depot play sand with some sterilized beach sand. 8 inches towards the left, 3ish inch...

Re: Big Claw has fallen off my Hermit crabs!
Limbs dropping is a sign of illness/stress. Sent from my LGMS550 using Tapatalk Could also be PPS. Sent from my HTC6515LVW using Tapatalk Sometimes hermit crabs fight. I don't know if it gets rough enough that one loses its big claw but if a hermit crab loses a limb it will grow back eventually. I'...

Big Claw has fallen off my Hermit crabs!
Considering I've only had the little guys for just over a week, its extremely disheartening to see something apparently traumatic occur in my tank. I have a 50 gallon tank, housing 5 Purple Pincher Hermit Crabs. They've done relatively well, and one is molting somewhere in the depths of the substrat...

Re: New Guy here!
Okay so Tank Specs: 50 gallon 3 ft by 1 foot "Aquarium"(Ofcourse, its functioning as a terrarium at this point) Note: Interesting story behind this tank. Neighbor gave it up and left it on the street, and considering a similarly sized tank would double my set up cost, I elected to take the tank in. ...

New Guy here!
Hello! I've been on this cite for about half a week now and I've even made a post in the Emergency section: though now, I think its just that I was a little paranoid and worried about my lil friends! Several days in with my 5 PPs, and I'm happy to say that I think my little guys have made themselves...

Re: Lethargic Hermit Crab
First off, I want to thank you all for such incredible feedback! Really, I'm suprised at how helpful this community is. Mini-update: all 5 of my crabs are doing well! I prepared a banana slice aswell as a hard boiled egg. And let me tell you-- they love it. One, the largest, seems to have an affinit...

Re: Lethargic Hermit Crab
snip The substrate? Tank is about 3 feet long and I sloped the sand I had so my little decapod pals would get a choice of elevation. At its deepest its 7 inches, decreasing to about 2.5 inches or so, give or take a few centimeters. I would like to increase the elevation by two inches across the boa...

Re: Lethargic Hermit Crab
Snip Okay. So good news. Horatio seems to be a bit more active, as he climbed ontop of a Choya log, I think he even munched on some Pillow moss I planted up there. Slow day, as expected-- I'm sure their all resting after a long 24 hours of exploration. Hopefully going to get some Sardines today; I'...

Lethargic Hermit Crab
Hey guys! Newbie here! I've been preparing several months to own Hermit Crabs and I just got them yesterday! Currently there are 5 of them in a 50 gallon tank, with damp play sand mixed with sterilized beach sand acting as a substrate. The Temperature is almost always perfect in the tank, hovering a...
