Re: reptilebasics UTH
In case you are interested, I am going to be selling my UTH's as well as my daytime/nitetime heat lamp that has a regulator. Also selling everything in my tank, my shells, cholla, etc....you can have your family contact me if you'd like. I'd give them a fair deal and probably throw in a lot of extra...

Re: when to start searching
Thank you wodesorel- I wasa hoping you would chime in and confirm what I should do! I am mostly a lurker on this site, but I have certainly noticed you are one of the people to listen to :) On a sadder note, I did just dig them up and all 3 were dead. Poor little guys. And I had thought 2 were in pa...

Re: when to start searching
I don't think they are molting. From what I've read and seen with my others, it seems much more likely that they went down to destress right? It doesn't make sense that a tiny-small size crab would take 5 months to molt, right? They didn't do any of the normal pre molting behavior (excess eating, et...

when to start searching
I started with one 20 gallon tank that had 9 crabs. The tank was too small for that many so I made a second tank (44 gallon) and as the crabs came up (they were all buried for many weeks) I moved them into their larger tank. I have 3 very small crabs that are still buried. It has been 5 months. Thes...

Re: 7 crabs down for 8 weeks
Ok, thank you. It is very hard to wait...they are so intriguing to watch, so to see them for just a few days and then they all disappear is hard for an impatient person  This morning, my smallest one (the one that came from a home) was up! So I just had to get impatient enough to post about it...

7 crabs down for 8 weeks
Hi- within a short period of time, I went from having 0 crabs to 9 crabs. 8/9 came from pet stores, 1 came from poor conditions with a different owner. I first had them in a 20 gallon tank, and 7/9 buried. I meanwhile turned my 44 gallon tank into a crabitat and moved my 2 "up" crabs to that tank. T...

Re: new to crabs, think I've got it all down :)
My UTH is behind the tank, not underneath, so that is no concern. The sand is for aquatic's- many people with shrimp use it...and shrimp are very similar in sensitivities to crabs (copper, dyes pesticides etc) so pretty sure it's safe. It is not dyed sand, it is actual black sand. And as I stated, i...

new to crabs, think I've got it all down :)
So, my boyfriend and I were talking about getting hermits. I did some research, realized they were a lot more in depth then I thought. A week later, a friend told me a different friend was getting rid of a crab...her kids had 2 of them, lost one outside (eek) and lost interest. So...it began. Got hi...

Re: can hermit crabs drown?
That then leads to the next question. I know they love climbing, so obviously are pretty capable little creatures. Between the plastic netting ramp, the cholla that is right by its side so they can also use that as a ramp (one end is buried in the stones, the other leads out of the water), and a roc...

can hermit crabs drown?
Hi- I am new to the crab world. I've spent many many hours researching and have got my tank up to par. Only issue has been ensuring the humidity is high enough. Today I got a bubbler for their freshwater pool. I was using a pool that was about 4" x 5" and 2 inches deep. I switched to a deeper bigger...
