To handle or not to handle?
I rescued 2 crabs this summer from the sidewalk at the beach. My larger one died in September after a molt. My second one was under at the same time and came up on her own and I believe she molted as well. She has settled into a nice routine the past few weeks - she will bury under substrate during ...

Re: Best Way to Monitor Humidity and Heat
I did the salt calibration test. The analog was 15 below (55 when it should have been 70). The digital was 10 above (80 when it should have been 70). I could not adjust either but at lest now I know. So if my analog has been saying about 70% really it has been 85% which is of course why I see conden...

Best Way to Monitor Humidity and Heat
I have a 20 gallon glass tank with a glass top that is hinged. I have 6 inches of substrate and 2 water pools with bubblers. I also have moss in the crabitat. I have a dual thermometer/hygrometer - analog purchased at Petsmart - for monitoring. It tends to show about 70-75 degrees F and about 70-75%...

Re: After the sad death of one crabbie, the second one came
Thanks! I listed myself on the adoption thread. I have never used Craig's List but I searched in my area under "hermit crab" and nothing came up. It's more likely in the summer when folks are vacationing at the beach I think.

Re: DC, DE, MD, VA, WV Adopters
Located in Northern VA Willing to adopt in the metro DC area as well I currently have one PP (my second one recently died) and I want a companion for her. She is small to medium sized. I have a 20 gallon tank with the works - 2 pools (freshwater and saltwater), deep substrate, several hides, moss p...

Re: All living things Live Moss
I took a small glass jar used for pesto sauce (from Classico) and cleaned it out. I put it on its side and filled with moss. My crabbie loves hanging out there!

Re: After the sad death of one crabbie, the second one came
I added the moss pit while both were down so this is the first time Bluey has investigated. She seems to love it. I would get her a roommate but I don't want to buy a hermit crab and support the trade...I got both of them as rescues (someone left them abandoned on the sidewalk) and that was my first...

After the sad death of one crabbie, the second one came out!
I lost my crab Orangutan last week due to my own errors. I learned a lot from the experience. Bluey was also under but I waited her out and she came up over the weekend. I quickly took action to beef up my substrate. It is now nearly 6 inches the entire way across (a little higher on one side). She ...

Re: Newly molted crabbie with missing legs - please help
My apologies also for not seeing where you had answered the template! GB has provided the info that you need. I also order from HCP, they have oyster shell and coral calcium that my crabs really like! And it's hard, but resist digging up the crab that is under! My bigger crab Sonny just came up las...

Re: Newly molted crabbie with missing legs - please help
Yes to all, but as far as completely covering with a blanket, this isn’t necessary. When they dig down in the substrate it is dark [emoji3] it does help with the heat though. [emoji3] Edit: as far as the dechlorinator, a lot of us use a product called Prime :) You get it at the pet shops, or off of...

Re: Newly molted crabbie with missing legs - please help
Oh man. I am so sad. I think orangutan is gone. She has not moved and smells fishy. I am going to give it a few more days to be absolutely sure. But last night she looked vigorous and well (to my eyes) and this morning she was all shriveled and dry looking. I definitely made mistakes. My other crab ...

Newly molted crabbie with missing legs - please help
My crabbie Orangutan molted about a week and half ago. It was my first molting experience (2 months as an owner so far) and I made some mistakes. She molted in a shallow area of substrate and I dug her up out of concern. When I realized she had molted, I left her be in a little pit. She was complete...

I think we have successfully molted for the first time!
I have posted on here the last few weeks. I am a fairly new accidental crab owner (about 7 weeks now). I have 2 purple pinchers. the bigger one went under about 3ish weeks ago. I made the mistake of digging her up and she had molted. Then I made the mistake of covering her back up again. On Friday, ...
