Re: Crabs passed away, worried about others

These two were from the same previous home. They hadn’t had enough sub in their previous tank, therefore I’m not sure if they’ve ever molted while in captivity. They didn’t with me. Two crabs I adopted from a different home have successfully molted with me. The sand in my tank is play sand. I’m awar...

Re: Crabs passed away, worried about others

Thank you. We will definitely be switching to marine salt, I didn’t know sea salt didn’t work. I didn’t mention it but the pools aren’t filled with tap water, I filter is prior with a brita water filter and then use the Api. I’ll also check out the humidity page.

Re: Crabs passed away, worried about others

Yes, the sub is moist and sandcastle consistency. I’ve tried getting humidity above 70% but it just doesnt stick. We use Api water conditioner and sea salt I have egg shells around the tank and they get eggs, coconut, and other protein sources. They were both in the back corner of the tank under a f...

Re: Crabs passed away, worried about others

To add a little, I was always told the tank would smell if a crab had passed yet i never noticed a smell. One crab was clearly more decomposed then the other. I feel awful for not noticing sooner, I figured they were digging.

Re: EE? Sand?

Thank you so much!! I'm going to keep just sand for now. If I'm struggling with humidity I'll add EE but for now, everything is maintaining good.

EE? Sand?

I recently upgraded to a 75-gallon tank. I have around 300lbs of sand in it getting to 7 inches of sub. Should I add EE? or just keep sand? The crabs are already in the tank.

40 gallon breeder

How many carbs can you have in a 40 reg? According to the sizing chart, my 7 have plenty of space but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I have 1 small, 3 medium, and 3 large. Using the sizing chart they need 31 gallons of space. Is that right? or are they too crowded? I wanted to upgrade to a 75 ga...

Re: Worried about molter

I would just leave him alone. Depending on his size it may take longer to molt. If the tank starts to smell then he probably passed but if not I'm sure he's fine. The more you disrupt him the more stressed he will be.

Re: Cost of Hermit Crabs in Your Area

I adopted all 7 of my crabs. The first 3 I paid 50usd and they came with a 40gal tank and some supplies. the other 4 were just given to me with a 37gal tank and stand and tons of supplies. The first group came from craigslist and the second came from FB marketplace. The hermit crab industry is horri...

Re: How to grow chia garden?

You could sprinkle the seeds in your sub or you can start one outside the tank. Get a plate for something of that sort (I like using the terracotta pot saucers) put a ton of the chia seeds on it and cover them in water don't water for a few days, but when you do mist them. After a week or so you sho...

Re: The Basics to Hermit Crab Care.

As far as tank space goes, I have 7 in a 40gal. 3 large,3 medium, and 1 small. I know I don't have enough sub in mine but I will add more once I get the tank moved, it just makes life easier when it's no so heavy. I've asked so many people where they get their shells, I have quite a few but not enou...
