Cross-species communication

I have three Ecuadorians and one PP, and recently read that my one PP could get lonely even with the others in the tank because they are of different species. Is this true? I could get another pp if needed, but my tank is a bit small for five crabs.

I've read up about PPS and how to deal with it out of fear of my killing my crabs, but three out of the four new crabs I have are regularly moving around and eating even in the daytime. Update: he is now digging in his little spot. Is this normal molting behavior, or is he trying to get out? I can't tell, but he seems to be digging sideways, away from the glass.
