Have you checked out the care sheet re- numbers of crabs in what size tank, as per their size? I would say you are likely fine until they are all large crabs. I've had a crab go down in one shell and come up in another. My crabbies like to bury shells just for this purpose, I think. I'd wait it out personally, unless you detect an odor that indicates decay.

I've got my current uth set up on a controller as well. It's great at stabilizing temps.
