I dug up a nearly completed molter last week during a deep clean and used a medium size Gladware storage bin to ISO him until he finished. I put about three to four inches of moist coco-fiber in it along with his exo and an extra shell. I cut a hole in the top of the lid to keep air circulating and ...

You are never going to get the heat to an acceptable level with just a UTH. You will need another heat source whether it be a clamp light or more preferably a reflective hood light with both day and night bulbs. Remember that the UTH will also dry out the substrate meaning that you likely need to mi...

I wish I knew. Maybe we will all continue to learn more about it as time goes on. This one seemed so healthy and well adjusted too. He is the one in my avatar and was very active and friendly for the first few days after we brought him home. Thanks for all of the advice and well wishes. This has cer...

Unfortunately, we lost him yesterday. I came home from work and he was still sitting in the same place he has been for three days, but this time he was hanging half way out of the shell. I picked up the shell and he slid out. No doubt he was dead. I suppose we just have to chalk both of them up to P...

Lethargic Crab
I'm afraid we may be losing another crab. One of our PP's (we've had it for three weeks) has moved very little for the last three days. I finally moved it to an ISO tank this evening and while it moved in and out of it's shell very slowly, it doesn't look good. The eye pods are droopy and the antenn...

We keep a Word journal of our own (not published) that tracks when and where we purchased and when any of our crabs change shells. We will also track molts and deaths and anything else of interest. Perhaps if it becomes interesting enough, we will publish it somewhere, but for now it is just for our...

Each airline has their own rules on what they allow in the cabin and what has to be checked as cargo. The only one I am familiar with is Delta. They do not allow anything except small dogs and cats in the cabin. All reptiles, amphibians and such (they don't specifically mention crabs, but I asked) m...

I live in the Atlanta area and I know there are definitely PetSmarts and Petco's around. You can go to Petco's website and put in your zip code to find the closest store. I haven't been up there lately, but my guess is that the pet store at the Mall of Georgia probably has hermies. That isn't too fa...

I'm new here, so probably not the best to give advice, but something you said struck a chord with me - the new seashell hut. Our two original crabs were fairly active the first day or two we had them, but when we bought our 10g tank and set it up with a coconut hut, they started spending most of the...

Growth Rate
Being a newcomer, I have no experience with growth or molting. My three newbies fit the "small" sizing chart now - how soon will I have three medium hermies?
I'm not trying to rush them through life - just wondering for future tank capacity purposes.
