Re: (Curious)Can hermits mix with other crabs?
I was just reading and doing research on them, and it doesn't seem like they like other crabs or fish, so housing them with hermit crabs may upset and even scare them. They are also escape artists, and them accidently getting mixed with the hermits wouldn't be good.

Re: (Curious)Can hermits mix with other crabs?
Aquatic crabs need to be in the water like fish. They cannot live with land hermit crabs. Even if you have deep pools and put them in I think the land hermits would think of them as a snack. If you want aquatic crabs you could always set up an aquarium. They are awfully cute. That's what I was thin...

Re: How much fresh air?
Sorry for the misinformation, I didn't think hermit crabs needed fresh air. I could have sworn someone on here said they covered their whole lid with saran wrap. Sorry, thanks for clearing it up guys

Re: How much fresh air?
Well, hermit crabs have gills, not lungs, so fresh air isn't really required. It's just nice to have air flow, so if you think limiting the amount of air flow will help raise humidity, then I think you should go for it. I personally keep a damp towel over the top of my tank lid, and it works great, ...

All three of my hermit crabs dug down in the exact same place, I think digging under a hidey makes them feel safer, so maybe that is where Gumbo and Chowder want to dig too.

He's a hoot, has no idea how big he is and is a wuss to boot! The turkey was in an eggshell supported by the lid of a Gatorade bottle. When he started pushing the eggshell, the bottle top slid away from the eggshell and under the back of his shell, elevating him just enough that he couldn't get int...

Re: just checking
My five guys are all still up so you'd think there would be quite a bit of chowing down but nooooo. Most "exotic" foods will get "fondled", one or two will get "pinched" but, if it's not their homemade dry mix or raw egg whites, they're seeimgly indifferent. The two foods that have caused a sensati...
Victory!
So I have the pickiest crabs! I have tried giving them raw egg shells, apples, oranges, broccoli, carrots, blackberries, and there dry mixes. They will only eat their dry mixes from the HCP, and sometimes they will eat the apples. But a few days ago I made myself some boiled eggs, and when I peeled ...

Re: Best hermit crab pet shop
It seems odd to feed fish food to hermit crabs, but al least they get some fresh food. 2.5 inches of sand is better than most places, but still not quite deep enough.
But theses conditions are pretty good, wish I could find a better place near me.

Re: In what other pet would it be acceptable........?
Wow. When did we become fearless? I had a mouse once in my bedroom growing up. I freaked out every time I heard it. I lured it into a bag of tortilla chips, snatched him up and tossed him outside bag and all. Terrified. Never thought things would change so much. I feel like I would secretly keep it...
