Fish bubblers (air stones) for humitity?

Post by Guest » Sat Oct 04, 2003 12:55 am

I was wondering if anyone else does this? I keep a long glass tube (kind of like a test tube...found one at a craft store) up right in my tank, taped to the sides near the top of the tank so it's out of reach. I fill it up 3/4 of the way with treated water so it won't splash out and put in a small air stone hooked up to a small air pump. I use the smallest "Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Ceramic Airstone" sold at petsmart. It works very well. It's not too loud or anything and the bubbles tend to be smaller...less splashing out. I can only hear it barely at night when it's very quiet. It does make quite a difference in humidity. It also does not take up much space. I had not heard of anyone else doing this so I was just wondering if I was the first? I know some of you use waterfalls and I think it's pretty much the same concept. Also if someone knows where I could get a 10-15 inch glass test tube like thing, I would LOVE to find out where. I want to be able to bring it down to the sand so I can hide the air stone and see the bubbles come up from the sand. I think this will be great once I get the night glow bulb. I just need to attach it to the tank with something other then tape. Let me know if you have any ideas on that as well.

I don't know if they make them quite that large but have you tried looking around on the net? I don't think you'd find them anywhere else. You could look for a chemistry supply catalog, but I couldn't even give you the suppliers names. You could attach it with a glue gun or there is something that some people use. Do a search for glue and you should get a lot. There was a couple of posts on it a few weeks ago. That sounds like it would be pretty with the airstone under the sand and a night glow bulb on. Unfortunately I'd rather get my humidity down.........

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately I need to take the test tube down for cleaning. I wish there was a prettier way to keep it up besides tape! LOL But you did give me an idea while I was reading your reply...I wonder if it would work if I got two pieces of glass and glued them to the sides of the tank in the corner to make a sort of square thingie to slip the tube into? Oh and wouldn't it be cool if I had two at each back corner? Maybe that's going a little too far! lolThe biggest test tube on that web page is the same size as mine, however I am about to make a shelf vase (five or so test tubes hanging from a shelf/with water and fresh flowers) and I like those prices! So thank you so much! Btw, I love this site, you guys really bring out the creativity in me.

Cool idea! When look for ways of attaching the tube to the tank, try Silicone or a Cord Hook. You will see them in the office supply areas. Its a loop that sticks to a cabinet or wall that snips all the electrical cords together. Sticky on one side and snips on the other. I use the Bubbler Bowls from PetsMart. It is a texture corner shapedbowl with a hole for the tube and air stone. Its works great alongwith a sponge to lightly cover the inner surface area. The crabsuse it like a spa. The humidity level stays between 60-70% dependingon how much I vent the lid opening. I would like to think the airstone bubbles keep the water fresher.

A tall thin vase might work also.
