Hi...my name is Leona and I have had Athena and Triton for 4 years. I gave them a home when parents of a 5-year-old purchased two hermit crabs in painted shells and a wire cage for a summer pet. When the family went home, the crabs did not. They came to live with me. I have given them a good home over the years, but I turned 76 this year and the sand and tanks are heavy.
My concern is that they each really are 'hermit crabs' for they each live in their own 30-gal tank. They were in the same tank for many months and got along well. But after Athena had her 1st molt...she turned into a little terror. Noting I could do to distract her would stop her bullying of Triton. She would roll him around and try to pull him from his shell. He got no peace. So, I set up another tank. I tried over the years to re-acquaint them again but Athena would have no one else in her tank.
I would like to find good homes for them.
Thank you...
Leona

Please give at least a general location so local adopters can find you!

Re: Need to Rehome
Thank you for pointing this out...my post did miss specifics:) It disturbs me to think about Atheana & Triton being in another location and care, even though it is necessary. I consider them my special needs hermit crabs. I also received a notice that gave information guidelines. It was my 1st post about this, so I apologize.
Location: Haddonfield, NJ - apartment in commercial building
Travel: I cannot travel.
Crabs: Two. They are about the same size and have molted twice in the 4 years plus I have had them. They were small in the fall of 2019 -I have baby pictures:) Currently, they are in 2 1/4" turbo shells. Both seem very healthy to me. They eat well and utilize both their salt and fresh water dishes. They do like to take long 'naps' under the sand for long periods of time even when not molting. If I get too concerned about the time length, a few pieces of popcorn in their environment will bring them to the surface.
Fee: No cost at all for the crabs or any equipment.
Other: I would only ask that anyone adopting them would take care to keep an eye on Athena if they put her in a community. She has not stopped being a bully. Triton, I feel may blend into a community. He seems to have a very passive personality.
If I haven't covered all the necessary information, please ask.
Thank you.
