New crabber and need to order shells...

I'm excited because I just picked up my two new hermits for my classroom. My family wants me to keep these crabs and get different crabs for the classroom lol! I plan to order my shells from the thecrabpatch....I like the bags of shells that come in small & medium...which bag will I need to order for these fellas (or gals). Should I order the bag of small or medium, or both and let them decide? Thanks!

Also, are these purple pinchers? The people at Petco said their crabs come in as unknown species...

I'm also working on the humidity/heat dilemma right now, trying to insulate the back where the heater is....

I recently bought shells through naples shell company (recommended by the crab patch.) The shells come very nicely packed (the shipping is a little high) but the price of the shells themselves are very cheap and they are nice. They also help you figure out how to measure appropriately for your crabs based on their pincher size. This way you can pick the different types of shells you like!

The shell sets from THCP are a good start, and they have shells with both D shaped and round openings. Your crabs are both Purple Pinchers, so they'll probably prefer round opening shells like turbos. I think the favorites are striped turbos and tapestry turbos. Smaller crabs seem to like to wear green turbos..or at least mine do! I'm a terrible judge at shell sizing, so I may not be much help. Naples' Seashell Company has pretty good instructions on measuring: http://naplesseashellcompany.com/sizematters.html They're also a good place to order from. You'll want to get a decent variety of sizes - I have teeny crabs in comparatively huge shells, and larger crabs crammed into small ones so you just never know what they will want to wear.

So...after all that rambling, the packs at THCP may be a good starting point for a good variety to see what your crabs prefer - once you find out, then you could order specific shell types/sizes.
