Let's make sure I've got this right.

I've been looking into getting hermit crabs for a while so I was on Amazon looking for stuff. I found this (http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Reptihabi ... 00BUFT302/) kit. Someone on amazon must have amde a mistake because I got it for $19.57. Obviously it's not perfect but hey it's a 10g for $20! I live in Puerto Rico and the temp gauge in my bathroom (we don't use a/c in all rooms here) averages 85F with 50-80% humidity. Some days are hotter and some colder, but rarely does it under under 80F. I plan on keeping the tank in my bathroom because my bedroom does have A/C and the A/C is also a dehumidifier. My question is, besides toys, hideys, better sand, and better food, do I need anything else? Also, because the temperature here is stable and we do actually have wild hermit crabs about 1000 feet from my backdoor, do I need a heater?

If it never gets below 75 degrees or if it only dips below that a few times a year, I don't think you would need a heater. I would still make sure to get a temp/humidity guage for the tank however.

Although that kit is better than most, I personally would not use anything in it other than the tank. You will need two water dishes deep enough to submerge in, one for salt water, made using a dechlorinator and a salt mix for marine fish tanks like Instant Ocean and one that is just dechlorinated fresh water. The dish it comes with should be good for a food dish however. Also, I can't believe how much they want for it now!! $100?!

Welcome to the HCA :) Hope I answered your questions and feel free to ask more!

You can use the soil tho, i think its just cocofiber/eco earth. Everything else is def a toss as Ellysara said. The food and mineral blocks are especially bad!
I got suckered into paying $60 for that kit. You got a DEAL! lesson learned at a bargain price!
You have wild hermit crabs?!? Can you tell what type they are? Pls take some pix in the future!!!

I'll try and take some pictures of the wild ones one day. When I was a kid we used to pour water into the holes they made so they'd come up. I've had many a stick fight with an angry hermit. Of course I woudlnt do that now. Haha. Thanks for the advice
