Keeping isopods

Post by Rawrgeous » Mon Aug 22, 2016 8:15 am

l have started a colony of zebra isopods I plan on keeping to use as cleaners in the crab tank. I chose the Zebra ones, they aren't as creepy crawly looking as the others..definitely got more than the 16 I paid for, and I'm definitely good with that. ImageImageImage
Just a few pics of their set up and one of the little guys.
Does anyone know the length of their breeding cycle? Any tips from members that keep isopods?

Keeping isopods

I was hoping to see a reply to your question. I received some zebra Isopods last week. They seem to be doing well. I probably check on them too much but they are cute. I'll let you know when I find some baby Isopods in the future.

Sorry I didn't catch this sooner.

I can't tell you about the length of their breeding cycle but the Roach Crossing or Isopod Connection pages may.

I started with maybe 20 armadillum vulgare and now have hundreds and hundreds in their tote.

Not a problem! I did get an email out to Stacy and she replied this morning. She said the Zebra isopods see one of the most prolific of the armadillium isopods and to expect babies within a few weeks to months, but I saw a teeny baby the other day so I'm hoping that's a good sign that I might have gotten a female that was already gravid. I'm honestly just anxious to get them in the tank, but I want to have a good breeding stock going first, as I don't plan on buying them again...expensive lil things lol

I was showing the Isopods to my grand daughter and we found an isopod next to his exo half. Very cool. I'm fascinated by these guys and the crab gang.
