Hi everyone,
Right now I'm preparing for hermit crabs except, and I've gone most of the supplies I need. However, some of the things I think I will need is a heater and an aquarium Hood. Is there any good DIY aquarium hoods that I can assemble or buy? Also, my room stays at a constant 73 degrees, do I need an under tank heater for my aquarium?
Thank you!

I would definitely get a heater, at 73 the crabs won't be very active & could have health issues down the line if kept at that temp long term. you can get a heat mat & attach it to the back of the tank. for a 10g you shouldn't need a very large/expensive one. Ideally look for one the same width of the tank or a bit smaller. I get mine from the Reptile Basics website.

Thank you Doth! I'll try to see what I can save up for, and hopefully it's within my budget!

We have recommended temperatures of 72 or higher for the last couple of decades. Yours is the lower end of safe, so if there ever was an accidrntal dip, it could become an issue quickly. A UTH would bump the heat up to where there is a bit more of a cushion, which is a good thing. People also note more activity at warmer temperatures.
As for a hood, an actual full plastic hood with light bought new is likely to be pretty crappy for crabs. Up until a few years ago I would have recommend one, but the newer designs are flimsy and overpriced. It wouldn't hold them in! A screen lid that you cover over with plexi or plastic would be cheaper and more effective. (Maybe $20 total) The other option would be a glass lid but they cost a little bit more. The lid should be secured with clips if a screen lid, or use velco or something to hold the lid on as crabs can lift them and get loose.
