Hey everyone...

Post by Crabby7Crabber » Tue Mar 10, 2020 6:59 am

I am super sorry I haven't been active lately. I have been having some emotional/mental problems that I'm trying to deal with. It also doesn't help that I've had tons of homework, and that it's tech week and we're opening on friday (my theatre). I hope I can be online more soon-- I'm still trying my best to take care of my hermies the best I can (having problems keeping the sub a sand castle consistency-- any tips?), and I just cleaned out their tank two weeks ago, so they have 6 in of sub, deep containers (protected, which I'm proud of) and lots of fresh food. My little PP came up about a month ago, and he and the other little one have been snuggling in the moss pit (any suggestions on how to keep it more moist? My humidity's been okay, but I'd like to get it up more). And my E has been getting less and less shy, and is turning a beautiful color (his joints aren't red anymore, so yay!). All in all, they're doing okay, just some tips on keeping the sub a sand castle consistency and keeping humidity up would be nice. Thank you for all the guidance and support you guys! :hearts: :grouphug:

Sorry about your personal issues . Hope you get better!

As for the sub... you say isn’t sand castle consistency. Is it dry? If it’s dry I’ve heard of adding a small amount of water (half cup) to one corner. Give it some time to wick through (maybe 24 hrs) then check again. If it needs more water then add another half cup to a different corner. I just used to mist the surface on occasion but my surface doesn’t dry out anymore so I don’t add water at all anymore. I don’t even like watering the moss I have. The only way I know to keep moss moist is to keep adding water. I know someone here (might be Motorcrab) has suggested putting some moss by the fresh pool to let it soak up some water then swap it with moss in the pit. That will help minimize any splash out from the pool as well preventing flooding. I just squirt my moss with a spray bottle but try to avoid any water hitting the sub because my sub is very moist. I’m a bit concerned about a flood in my tank at the moment so I haven’t watered my moss in a while. Except for some moss I have in a coconut that’s upside down up near the lights so it dries out quickly.

As for humidity ... I control mine with gaps in my lid. You might need a tighter fitting lid. My tank is so moist that I need to crack my lid. My pools are enough to keep the air humid. If I completely deal my lid I’d have 99% humidity all the time. Even though I have nothing between the lights and the inside of the tank I have no problems keeping humidity up.

Hope sharing my situation has helped.

Thank you for the help! I think this weekend I'm going to try to moss thing. And I might get a tighter lid as well. As for the sub, it's slightly moist after me putting a whole bunch of water in it a few days ago. Ugh! I'm trying my best though, and I appreciate all your help beyond words. :)

Wow, crabby that is a LOT going on for one person! Don't you wish we could go molt for a month? Crab hugs!

If they're digging I'm thinking they like the consistency. But spraying a moss pit is good advice.

What mix are you using for the sub? Play sand and EE? Approx what ratio?

I use the ratio you guys suggest-- the 5:1 of Quikrete and EE. Thank you Crabalicious <3 !

Can you just make your current lid seal better? If that’s the issue.
