Can I boil water for substrate?

Post by Daniellebusone22 » Sun Apr 12, 2020 3:35 pm

:| so as of right now it’s very hard to leave Because of the virus that is spreading. I really need to change my crabitat and I don’t have much distilled water left. I have hermit crab drinking water conditioner by ZooMed. Can I boil my sink water and use the conditioner for my substrate? Also for the drinking water? Usually this wouldn’t be an issue because I would just go to the store and buy distilled water. Also should I put some calcisand in a small part of the tank for the crabs like a beach? Or just stick with the coconut fiber substrate?

Just plain tap water with dechlorinator will be fine. I use Prime. And no on the calci sand. That is very bad for crabbies. Playsand is best. The kind they use for kid's sandboxes. We use the recommended 5-1 ratio. 5 parts sand to 1 part eco earth (coconut fiber). Yes, dechlorinated tap water is safe for drinking and for the substrate.

Thank you for that. I won’t use the calci sand. I bought it when I first got my crabbies but just never used it. Thankfully. I don’t know why the person told me that this is the best substrate for them. With my research it’s not and also it’s not substrate it’s bad sand.
