Lost limb

Post by SnipSnapDad » Tue May 12, 2020 12:52 pm

I've had my boys for a little over a month and i've noticed something amiss with my bigger pp, Snips. He seems to be missing the last segment on one of his legs. Im not sure if he always had it or if something recent has happened. What can I do for him to help him recover? Id hate to think its causing him pain and discomfort. :(

Crabs are pretty great when it comes to regrowing limbs, which they often do during molts. I'd just say to keep up thorough care and make sure conditions are perfect for a nice and safe molt. Until then, there probably isn't much else to do. Also, you might wanna keep an eye out for any crab fights, he could've lost it in a fight that went on in the tank while you weren't watching.

Thanks, avocadocrabbies. I'm going to keep a close eye on him. I've made sure he's got plenty of his favorite foods and I'm gonna make sure that he and his brother aren't fighting. They seem to like being around eachother a lot, and I've never heard chirping or anything. It'd really suck if they started disliking eachother.

Hermit crabs' ability to re-grow limbs or parts of limbs is actually quite remarkable. He should re-grow it during the next molt.
My Cher lost a leg one time, and it was a bit thinner than the others when she regrew it. But after the second molt, you couldn't tell which one was the 'new' one.
