Re: Where to buy a Strawberry or Ecuadorian...or even a Aussie
I'm pretty sure if you Google "Strawberry hermit crab for sale" (or do the same for Ecuadorian) a website called Live Hermit Crabs will come up. However the site is under repair and you can't check out.
Although there may be strawberries, blueberries, E's, and maybe ruggies up for adoption. There is an adoption page here, but also check Offer up and craigslist.
As for the Aussie hermit crab, they are EXTREMELY rare and shipments have just started so I dont think they are an option.
If we have crabcon next year, Mary Akers may be breeding and selling her captive bred hermies, and some could be different species depending on what she breeds, so keep a lookout for that.
Hope I could help!

Never buy from livehermitcrab.com, they known for taking your money and never sending you your crabs. We have a whole thread dedicated to them and members experiences, in the store review... worth checking out.

As for different species (not to be confused with breed, there are no breeds of hermit crabs) sometimes stores get exotics in , but usually reptile expos are a pretty reliable source unless you adopt (which is always recommended).
As for Aussies, its unlikely. As far as I'm aware, there has been no permit for the export and honestly its unlikely to happen due to covid and restrictions of international flights. It be silly to do so, as so many flights get cancelled in and out of Australia. They aren't 'rare per say, however only a small handful may still be alive outside of Australia (captivity) currently.
The most recent permit I could find - which also coincidently lines up with the last export of Aussies out of Australia - from Australian Government website.

Keep in mind, exotics are a lot more finicky compared to Es and PPs (especially PPs) and only best for those that have a couple of years experience under their belts before considering purchasing/adopting some. Most exotics fail to live past a couple of years at best, and this time frame is further reduced with people that don't have the necessary experience to provide for their care IMO.
