Hi! I am a new crab owner and I just recently saved two crabs from a friend that bought them from a store at the beach. I’ve had these crabs for about 3 months now. They are two small PP and they were very active for the first two weeks. They came in the toxic painted shells so I immediately bought new shells and spread them around the crabitat. My issue is, my substrate that was once 6” on my cooler side of my tank has seems the have dried out and is down to 4”. I believe both my crabs are molting. One is in a blue shell (Sebatian) who has been dug for about a month now. One is in a pink shell (ariel) who has been dug for about 3 weeks now. Ariel has dug herself up and soaked in the saltwater bath the first week but has been buried since. I want to add 3in more substrate so they are comfortable but I am afraid they will suffocate or not be able to dig themselves out. Please advise. Thank you! I’ve tried to attach a picture of my tank but I’m on an iPhone and not sure how. (My cooler side I keep around 70-75 with a side tank heater and my warm side I have a heat lamp that I make sure the temp stays at 80) plus a humidifier in the back that keeps the humidity at 70-80

Just add one inch a day and it will be ok. Don’t panic it’s fixable.

You can add what you need, just don’t press or pack down.
