Well...

I had 5 molters go down, with the last one being my OC, Hermione...end of Dec. I was worried she wasn’t prepared enough for her molt bc I hadn’t seen her eat/drink much in the weeks prior. She often just chilled in her sit spot. I was hopeful when she went down.

My first molter (ever), Turbo, came up a few weeks ago and I couldn’t have been more excited to see him! He would still dig/tunnel almost every day after that though and I had been concerned about my other molters, but knew I couldn’t do anything so just impatiently waited for the rest of them...and one by one they have all come up, except for my Hermione.

Well, just this morning I spied Turbo crawling around in Hermione’s shell. I wasn’t sure it was hers at first, but after comparing the shell to old pictures of her in it, I’m certain it’s the same one Turbo is wearing.

I’m assuming she has passed as I never saw her come up (checked my night vision camera too). I don’t think my tank is overcrowded based on the HCA chart, my sub is plenty deep, lots of shells for everyone and keep protein in their food dish.

Any thoughts? I’m very sad at the thought she is no longer with us...she is the whole reason I started crabbing.

Edit: Sorry, forgot to ask how is it possible for them to change shells underground...with all the sand? I can only assume this is what happened. Hoping for some good feedback.

I hope she somehow made it, but don't be too upset with Turbo. He's just doing crabby stuff.

Thank you both. I have pretty realistic expectations...but hanging on to a sliver of hope still! Would never blame Turbo and interestingly enough, he got bullied more than once, by more than one crab on the night he showed up in Hermione’s shell. Made me feel bad for him. Never seen anything like it...Gary looked like he was tap dancing on top of poor Turbo. It lasted several minutes and he was rocking him and it looked like he was hitting him with his claw. Guessing he wanted the shell. Turbo held out though and walked away, seemingly fine, after Gary got off of him. Such interesting little creatures! Missing my Hermione

Update: My sweet Hermione is alive!! She came up in a different shell! It has to be her as she is the only colorful crab I have! I am so very happy and relieved to see her! Really thought she didn’t make it when I saw Turbo wearing her shell. Phew!

Now, here’s the thing though. I mentioned in the last post how Gary went after Turbo in Hermione’s shell, but Turbo walked away from it and seemed to be ok. Well, I haven’t seen Turbo since. Could he just be de-stressing from what happened with Gary? It’s been several days. He hasn’t even been out at night (I have a camera) and he is usually my most active crab. I never saw Gary do any pinching, instead almost using his claw like a hammer against Turbo’s shell. Should I look for him to see if he’s injured? I have 1-2 very small crabs under though and don’t want to disturb anybody. Worried about Turbo though...
