Temperature !!
Haven’t gotten a stick on heat pad yet, waiting to get the money to get one at the pet store next weekend hopefully. But the tank has stayed at 70 degrees since I got the tank on Wednesday I think it was. But last night it got cold and I got up this morning and the inside of the tank was foggy on the glass and it was 60 degrees inside the tank. I have a 250 watt heat lamp I have clipped up about a good above the tank in hopes to raise the temp to where it should be. But I’m watching it as I know that lamp would fry my crabs if I left it on all day.... do you think the crabbies made it?? One is under the sub since I put him in there tunneling I guess. And the other i don’t know where it is. They was both alive as of like 2 this morning....

Re: Temperature !!
Hi there!
Zoo med pads are known not to work as well as Ultratherm or Fluker's uths.
Does it have adhesive? If it does, you can't remove and restick it. With that said, I've found it's best to place it on the back. When I got my small uth for my 20 gal, I originally placed it on the side. The temp barley moved. So I moved it to the back of the tank and now it stays nice and warm.
If the uth is padded, you cannot insulate over it, but you can insulate around it. You can do this by putting aluminum foil over cardboard (shiny side out) and duct taping this to the tank. If you don't have any cardboard, just use aluminum foil duct taped around the pad.
If you get a second uth, def go with Ultratherm or Fluker's. Don't go by wattage, just buy the one that will span the back of your tank. You can always get a thermostat to regulate the temp if the uth makes it too warm.

Re: Temperature !!
It is sticky adhesive and I put it on the side of the tank opposite my temp gauge. My temp gauge is reading 70 or so degrees.

Re: Temperature !!
Zoo Med UTH's can not be insulated over top. Try insulating the rest of the tank as described.
