Found hermit crab on beach

Found hermit crab on beach

Today I found a hermit crab on the beach I took some of the sea water with me along with the hermit crab,it has not moved yet and now there is some white filmy slimy stringy stuff floating in the water that wasn't there earlier, I'm concerned is the hermit crab dying or already dead?

Was it a local beach? You live too far north for terrestrial hermit crabs so unless you found an escaped pet it’s probably a marine hermit crab.
