Metal on fake plant

Post by Pumpkincrab » Sat Jul 17, 2021 7:11 pm

Hi all,
So I recently added a fake plant from Dollar Tree to my tank. I bended it and a *little* bit of metal is showing.
I currently have a crab climbing on it so I can't remove it yet, but should I? Is that much dangerous?
Thanks

Can you tell what kind of metal it is? Probably not a big deal but I don’t know what they use in those things.

The metal appears to be a greenish color...not sure if this helps?

Green in metals are usually a sign of copper, as when it oxidises, it will be green in colouration. Many pet owners do like to avoid copper exposure to invertebrates, which can be sensitive to high concentrations of copper.

Is it possible to grab a pic to confirm, usually a steel of some descript is used....

I'll grab one tomorrow if it's OK?
It wasn't in my tank for long- do you think it did lots of harm? The metal part was in the substrate, should I remove the infected substrate?

I don't think it would be harmful, once you remove it the trace amounts shouldn't be a risk.
