Trying to identify the species of a new crab! Any advice?

Post by hermiecrabber » Sun Mar 06, 2022 12:51 pm

Hi guys! I recently rescued 3 new crabs from someone, and they weren't sure what kind they are. I have searched on google for answers, but I haven't been able to determine what kind of crabs they could be either. I think one may be a strawberry but I haven't confirmed it yet, and I'm pretty sure the other may be an E, but I haven't seen him much so I can't be positive. I'm most curious about Shy Guy though. I'd attach a picture if I could but idk how so I'll just describe him. Shy Guy is in a spikey shell, he is very dark in color. I was wondering if he might be a cavipes?

How do you identify your crabs when you're not sure?

Hey there!

You can download the Tapatalk app on your phone to share pics. That's what I do. It makes it nice and easy to post pics. You can also use image sharing sites. Also, on Android phones, you can tap "share" on a pic, then tap "create a link", and share that link with us.

99% of crabs in the US and Canada are purple pinchers. If they bought them locally and didn't jump through hoops or pay extra, I would assume that they are all PPs.
