Shell Problems!!!

Post by EricaM8 » Mon Jul 04, 2022 1:03 pm

Hello! We are having a big problem finding shells big enough for my hermit crabs to change into. While I have many options for them, they are extremely picky. They only like the Babylonia shells and I keep ordering larger/extra larger but none are big enough. For the first time ever one of my crabs is in his coconut shell house NAKED!!!! I’m keeping the tank extra moist and he definitely does not appreciate me checking on him. Does anyone have an idea where I can find bigger Babylonia shells or something similar that may work? Thanks in advance🙂

(hey neighbor!)

a naked crab is an emergency. viewtopic.php?f=27&t=122302

not sure about where to get larger babylonia, perhaps the ones you've ordered have been listed by full shell size and not opening size, and that's why they arrived smaller.

what size shells are they currently in (or not-in, as the case may be)? do you know if they are purple pinchers or something else?
3 PPs: Maxwell (small), Mitchelle (medium/small), Kendall (medium/large)
also have 10gal freshwater fishtank w/ neon tetras, pygmy cories, and nerite snails

Hi,

Could you please fill out the emergency template too? It will help us get a better look into your tank conditions and see if there's anything that can be improved. A crab drops it's shell because it's too week to carry it.
