i have no idea how to use this but im desperate.
I recently got three rescue hermit crabs and frantically did research and did my best to make a great PPS tank for them. i got an Ultratherm UTH for them and im insulating it with Styrofoam i was given. it is not working. the crabs are cold and unactive and i really dont want them to die. it is a 47 x 11 ultratherm uth and its barley keeping it above 72 degrees. at night it gets even lower. how do i get the heat up and comfortable.
idk if i can stay on here long or see replies i do not know how to work this but if you see this ans you know what to do can tou please reply or go on discord ans add me at Tik#1034 please help me

No need to do the PPS method. It's better to get the crabs into good conditions right away. I'm not sure about the styrofoam, but you can insulate using cardboard and aluminum foil. Wrap the aluminum around the cardboard (shiny side out) and duct tape that over the ultratherm. Try to have the uth above the sub line to help heat the air in the tank. 72° isn't horrible. It's a bit under the 75°+ recommendation, but they should be ok until you can bump the heat up. If you can, placing smaller uths on the sides of the tank can warm it up too. How cold is your house? You can always temporarily close a/c vents near the tank. Blankets around the bottom and on top of the tank can help hold in heat.

its pretty cold ! i have been notified bh other people on reddit to not go with the pps method either. i think tomorrow or right nkw i will complete their set up completely and add more sand. i will get another heat mat if needed but there isnt any vents around the tank its just generally cold in my house always.

That sounds good to finish their setup. They'll be happier that way. Flukers uths are also good. You might be able to find those in pet stores. If you grab a couple of those and put one on each end, that should help get your temps over 75°. I've heard Zoo Med uths aren't great, so you might want to avoid that brand if possible. Just pack on some blankets and towels on top and around the bottom (not over the uth) for the night and that should help til you can get to the store tomorrow.tikbeeb wrote:its pretty cold ! i have been notified bh other people on reddit to not go with the pps method either. i think tomorrow or right nkw i will complete their set up completely and add more sand. i will get another heat mat if needed but there isnt any vents around the tank its just generally cold in my house always.

Re: Help heating EMERGENCY
You may find with deeper substrate, it will help increase/maintain the heat as the mat only needs to heat a fraction of the tanks total volume, the air (minus all the substrate!).
What size tank do you currently have them in?

Not meaning to jump all over the OP, but one item that hasn't been mentioned is the lid.
What do you have on the top of your tank?
Also, do you have a hygrometer to measure the humidity?
