I'm in a bit of a pickle currently with my recent tank upgrade.
Over the weekend I obtained a bigger tank and one new (adopted) crab, making 3 total. I ordered some climbing branches/toys etc and new water bowls on Amazon and have been adding them to the tank as they arrive.
Problem is,the water bowls have finally arrived (the current dishes are the shallow ones they sell at Petco which I've thankfully been educated about) but the new crab has buried himself.
I'm 75% sure I know where he is, but what if I'm wrong and disturb him when rearranging the tank? To make room for the deeper pools I will have to move some of their climbing branches which are buried a few inches for stability.
Should I leave the tank as-is until he surfaces? What worries me is that he'll be down for months, meanwhile my other two crabbies will have to suffer with insufficient pools. Wwyd?
need to add to tank, but crab possibly molting??

Re: need to add to tank, but crab possibly molting??
Crabs move around when they are underground, so there is a good chance he isn't where he was LOL. Removing items that are partially buried can disrupt and collapse molting caves, which could harm a crab if in a vulnerable part of the molt.
If you have PPs, they are fine with shallow pools - they can wade in and can use their setae to get water into their shells and for drinking. I have never had pools deep enough to submerge!
