Situation

Post by hermitcrab24 » Sat Nov 15, 2014 4:25 pm

Hello,
I currently have a hermit crab buried and molting. I Was planning on getting more when she comes up. But now I am thinking about getting more now. I have a fish tank divider up to block her off from my previous hermit crab. I was thinking they could get adjusted to their new habitat and when my current hermit crab came up, I could introduce them.

What do you guys think of this plan?

Thanks,
Bonnie

Just wanted to share my experience. I introduced 3 crabs to my 2 while one of them was molting and the other had declared himself King of the Tat. They all took turns destressing and molting and moved into an upgrade as they came up. Now they seem to be on the second round of molts and all seem to have all their legs and make appearances in good health.
In summary, i don't think you need a partition. Just pick good crabs and give them a dip, and plop em in as long as your conditions are properly provided you should have no issues. Be sure to introduce during a time that you can monitor, just in case!

Thank you for sharing. The fish tank divider was up when my hermit crab buried, is it safe to take it out? I don't want to collapse any molting tunnels.

It depends on how it removes? If you are sure to collapse tunnels, leave it be. Crabs like to be against stuff when buried, so u dont want to risk collapsing or stressing her.
Ultimately if u get new crabs now they could bury and molt on the other side when ahe comes up, and you will have to wait longer to remove the partition.
My advice is just wait til she comes up and remove it before adding friends. That way any future molter has as much space as possible.
