I rescued 2 hermit crabs from someone who was not properly taking care.of.them. they were giving them chlorinated water. Had no regulation for the humidity. Was at 40 when I got them and there sand and coco fiber was completely dry. I know that these can permanently hurt them, but will they still live a long life?

Oh and after I got the humidity up they almost instantly became active.

I have read about wire caged hermits that lived for 2-8 years. I think your rescues can still be saved. I'm sure they're more comfortable at the very least.

I was in a similar situation with mine -- friend's birthday gift from a mall kiosk, kept for about 2 weeks then given to me. Deplorable conditions, the whole critter keeper painted shells thing with a sponge and pellet food, no substrate...
He's now about twelve years old -- I'm pretty sure he's going in my will.
It honestly depends on the crab, I think. As long as you're keeping up the conditions and letting them de-stress they should fall into a normal routine and be fine! As delicate as they can be, they can also be just as tough!
Good luck to the poor babies -- Fingers crossed!

You're looking at normal Post Purchase Syndrome risks, even though they were rescued. If they get through that first molt with you, they should be fine for years and years.
