Shipping box for hermit crabs

We bought some hermit crabs on vacation like we do every year except this year some lady on a power trip in baggage check made a stink about it and we couldn't bring them as we have for at least 20 years. Normally, no one cares. We put their carrier under the seat and it’s no bother to anyone. Now a lady at the airport is nice enough to care for them while we try to figure out how to ship them. She’s tried. I’ve tried. The acceptable shipping container does not seem to exist. Anyone have any ideas how to get our crabs from Jacksonville to Chicago?

Agreed!

I don't think there is a safe way to ship crabs, as far as I know.

You’ll have to either make a road trip, leave them behind, or employ a specialized shipping company.

Truthfully, it would be substantially easier to obtain your crabs at home instead of while on vacation. It’d be a lot less stressful for both you and them.

Technically you can buy them on amazon so people do ship them. It looks like they ship them in small plastic containers with holes poked and lots of peanuts so they don’t move around a lot per people’s pictures. However, they also have a lot of reviews about them being dead on arrival or dying soon after. So you risk going thru all the effort for that risk. I’m about 3 hours from Chicago and was telling my friend who lives up there and had looked up and saw there was Petco in Chicago for her. That’s where I got mine. Considering they’re all wild caught wherever you get them from you’d probably be better off just buying at home. Sorry, sounds like it was a tradition and probably not what you want to hear! You could also look up for the airline or call someone and ask what their pet policies are that AREN’T allowed.. and if it’s not on the list that woman would have to allow it. Unless, you’ve already gone home.

Here ya go! I've done it and it's not too hard. Just make sure they have moisture and air holes, and are sent overnight.
