Habitat/Care Questions

I recently discovered an infestation of grain mites within my crabs' tank, and I heard that diatomaceous earth can be a great way to prevent or kill bugs. I'm wondering if I could put some around the tank to maybe prevent these bugs in the future?
I also was curious if anyone had ever tried to use a clear plastic storage bin as a crabitat, as opposed to a glass tank?
Not sure if these are stupid questions, though, lol

I wouldn't bother with the diatomaceous earth. The mites are harmless and, just so happening to live in all our homes, will likely find a way back in the tank, anyway. Besides, scattering earth around the tank gets messy and I wouldn't want it in the tank with the crabs.

There have been crabbers who used plastic totes in place of glass tanks. They have less viewability for crab-viewing but are generally cheaper and more portable than glass.
