New to HCA
New to HCA
Hi, my name is Hanna, I am new to HCA. I've had my 2 hermit Crabs for almost a year. I've read just about everything on how to take proper care of them. I just wanted to make sure I have it set up correctly. At one end of my terrarium temp stays between 78°-90° humidity at 50-60percent and this is the end with the water pools. The other end is the cooler end at 74°-77° humidity at 75percent and this is the end with 7" of eco earth/play sand. I have hemp hammocks above to climb on temp goes up to 90°-105°. I have 3digital thermometer/hygrometer and 1 analog. Is this the way it should be?

Hi Hanna welcome to the HCA. Most of us download the TapTalk app and upload photos through that. Here is the official website for TapTalk. https://www.tapatalk.com/
Another option is if you have an online photo storage place and can share links to photos that way.
We would all be interested in seeing your crabitat!

Humidity is low at top between 30-40percent, is that okay? It's 60-75percent below the hammocks.

It looks great. Is that a humidifier? If so I don't know why your humidity would be so low. Is your screen sealed? It doesn't look sealed. It needs to be completely sealed. With either saran wrap taped down, plexi glass from hobby store taped down or switch to a glass lid. And lights zap humidity. The humidity needs to be minimum 80%. They have modified gills and need that to breathe. Are you using the lights for heat? If so how do you heat it at night when lights are off? A UTH (under tank heater, but placed on back or side) is what you need to heat the tank. You need one that will cover the entire back from the top if the substrate to the top of tank. And actually the substrate should be a minimum if 6 inches across or 3 times the height of your largest crab, whichever is deeper. If you raise the sub where the pools are, even if buried to top of the pool, you will have more molting, digging space. The more molting space the better.

Yes it is a humidifier. No it's not completely sealed but I put it seran wrap on it, I was just worried with the heat lamps if that would cause a fire. The lights are for heat. It's very cold right now in Ohio. In the double heat lamp I have a 150watt day light and 150watt moonlight, I switch them on and off with the day and night. In the other 2 separate lamps I have one 200watt ceramic heat bulb, this one is in the middle and one 150watt ceramic heat bulb, neither show light so they stay on all the time. There is also an 8/12" undertank heater placed on the back of the tank, towards to sub. I have it set at 82°F, wasn't sure how high I can set it and it be safe. I will add more sub throughout the rest of the tank. Thank you for the tip!
