Color of my crabs changed a lot

Hi,
So I am relatively new to owning hermit crabs and something I have noticed is everyone one of my crabs moults they get a lot lighter in color. I have not had one crab that this hasn’t happened to. I read this could be due to diet but I give them a good variety I’m just not sure if this is ok because I have not found anyone with this problem

Do they eventually revert back or is the color change permanent?

Could you give us a detailed list of what you are feeding them? It can be diet and also genetics combined.

My younger crabs have come up lighter and my older crabs come up darker. I've read it could be age. I've had a brown E come up bright orange.

They get a variety lately they have been eating coconut oranges cabbage tomatoes grapes broccoli and chia. I have not Had them long enough for them to moult a second time.

A wide variety is key to the hermit crabs diet. I would bump up their proteins. Shrimp, bloodworms, crickets, grasshoppers and mealworms are usually easy to get at pet stores or Walmart. My crabs love apples, pears, carrots, and strawberries too. I will usually eat an apple or pear then toss the core in the tank. Hermit Crabs also love leaves. Oak, birch, maple, burning bush, and catappa are big hits with our guys too. Poop! hermit crabs absolutely love work castings!

This guide is important if you are planning to buy stuff from the store. A lot of items that are sold for hermit crabs, pets in general are not safe for them. This guide goes over what to look for.
