I will be upgrading my 40g to a 75g. anyone know how much play sand and ee i will need? also, are the ee bricks and bags the same stuff or do i need one or the other? i didn’t put the sub in my current tank so it’s all new.

Good question. I got one bag of play sand that filled around 7-8 inches of my 16gal tote. I mixed in EE too, from my previous tank. So, if one bag filled my 16 gal tank, maybe 4-5 bags of playsand?
EE bricks are cheaper but require more work in soaking them, draining them, ect. The larger bags of EE are pricier and contain more and take the work out of soaking them. (just pour and go) so it's personal preference.
One block of EE doesn't make much.
For a 75gal tank (I'm just guessing here....)
I would assume 4-5 bags of playsand and 2-3 blocks (or a larger bag) of EE.
I really am guessing here, but it seems like it would work, going off past experience.
Hope I could help!

Yea, I used 3 full 50 lb bags of playsand in my 40g breeder and not quite 1 bag of EE/coconut fiber (was going for 5:1 ratio)...if that helps with any sort of reference point . What surprised me was how much dechlorinated water I had to mix it with to get that sandcastle-like consistency! Never measured, just kept spraying and stirring, spraying and stirring...felt like my arms were on fire by the time I was done, lol. Worth it though to see my crabbies tunnels hold when they go under . Have fun with your upgrade, so much fun!!
