Metal hamster wheel in crabitat?

Post by Hermie13 » Wed Dec 30, 2020 11:14 pm

Hi again :)
I got a hamster wheel that was on sale a few months ago and I just recently found out that certain metals can hurt hermit crabs. Idk what it’s made of, but i think it’s coated with something and it doesn’t rust or mold. My hermies love it but should I take it out?

Sorry for the shaky camera I was holding my pup in one hand and my phone in the other lol

The safest thing to do would to get a plastic one and put plastic craft mesh on it so the crabs have a good grip on it like they would they metal one
Everyone I know has a plastic one
And before I knew crabs were sensitive to metal I used to use it as a ramp into the water bowls and they constantly climbed on those, so even if its bad for them you can still probably find them using it
