Reindeer moss

Post by crabbycasey » Mon Feb 08, 2021 8:35 pm

Wondering if Reindeer moss is okay for the hermies...? Found a cool kit in the reptile section with different types of moss...sphagnum, blonde sphagnum, pillow moss, sheet moss, a moss vine and then the reindeer moss! It’s super cool and squishy...and white. Is it ok to use in the crabitat? If not, why?

Thanks everyone!

If it’s in the reptile section it should be fine to use. Personally I’m curious to see how it fares in a crabitat.

I found "frog" moss at the pet store and have been trying that out. The crabs love picking at it. There's always moss bits all over the sand below the 2nd level moss container lol.

I haven’t seen frog moss yet (I don’t think, lol), but mine do the same thing with the pillow moss that tops all my 2nd level stuff...they’re creating their own lower level moss pit apparently! Crazy little crabs, love them!

Here's a pic of frog moss. I'm just glad I moved their salt pool recently, otherwise it would be covered in moss right now lol. ImageImage

“Frog moss” and “pillow moss” are two names for the same thing. It’s very light and soft.

Oh I like the frog moss, pretty green! It looks very different from what came in my bag labeled “pillow moss” though, haha. Strangely enough, I added some “sheet moss” (lol) recently and it started to mold after just a few days.

Thanks for all the moss feedback everyone!
