Mood moss

Post by Pumpkincrab » Tue Jun 08, 2021 5:52 pm

Hi all,
I'm looking to buy some bulk mood moss on Etsy. (Live) How would I go about cleaning it so it's crab safe?

Thank you

I had to look up to see what mood moss was. I would ask where the person collects the moss and if it's from an area that doesn't get sprayed for insects. I'm not sure what baking the moss would do to it. It would kill any insects that may be in it. I'm sure it would kill the moss too.

We have purchased moss and lichen from Because of Crabs on Etsy. Our crabs love her stuff!

Moss absorbs pollutants from water and air so it’s hard to make it “crab safe” if it isn’t already.

If it’s farmed or collected for animal enclosures it’s probably fine but due to the lack of regulations among amateurs Etsy is a wild west.

That's what I was thinking also.
I'll hold off on it for now, sphagnum moss will need to be enough for now lol.
