Preparing to get hermies?

Post by myllkti » Sat Jun 19, 2021 11:03 pm

Hi! So I’ve been interested in hermies ever since impulse buying them in middle school (we tried to turn things around as I looked up more info but alas it was too late, rip to my babies). I know in the parrot world, it’s always recommended to volunteer at a rescue or somewhere similar to be able to gain experience working w parrots before you’re thrown into owning them, an I was wondering is there was a way to do that with hermies, as I don’t seem to be able to find any hermies recuses. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!

I don't think its really possible besides getting a tank and a duo/trio of hermies and seeing if you like it. If you've had fish in the past, they pretty similar to fish for requirements and hands on level. (This is a generalised statement though! Individual experience may vary)

I’ve had them before, I just didn’t prep so I kind of have a general idea of workload I think. I’m just afraid if I get a little trio without guidance I might mess up somehow thanks though!

Setting up the tank prior does help a lot with the settling in period and reduces stress load. Honestly, if you can get everything except the crabs themselves and the shells (no point in buying shells too small!) You'll find most of your worries will be mitigated.
