Moving hermies to a larger tank

Post by jtaffaro » Thu Feb 10, 2022 9:36 am

Good morning! I am new here. I have 5 crabs that I got last August/October. They have been living in a 10 gallon tank so I recently purchased a 20 gallon tank. My crabs have molted as far as I know. I rarely see them though. I do know they have all switched shells. How do I safely move them to the new tank if I have to dig them up? I don't want to traumatize them. Thank you for any help!

Don't dig anyone up. Move any that are on the surface and wait for those under ground to come up on their own. Imo, others with more experience may have better advice.

Get them one by one at night if you have to until they're all moved over to the new setup.

Could be a long process. I know out of my 6 crabs that I got in September (3 each in 29g tanks), I'm not sure I've seen all 6. Although after they go through a good molt in captivity, they seem to be more tolerant to me gawking at them. LOL I often see one or two out and active during the day now.
Two 29gals. 3 PPs in each.
~200gal of fish tanks. Mostly planted community tanks.
Multiple kiddos, doggies and kitties.

Thank you so much. 2 of them are sometimes out during the day, but the other 3... who knows what they are up to lol.
