Help on substrate levels

Post by LunaTunA » Wed Apr 20, 2022 11:40 pm

Hi! So I got 4 hermits 2 a few days ago 2 today because I had to go back to petco and return things. But when I got home from petco 2 of my older hermits is hiding or digging under the dirt and the other 2 quickly did the same and I can hear them digging underneath because of the glass from the tank. But my question is is if a bad idea to put more eco earth on top of them since there already in the dirt? I’m afraid I’ll hurt them because I’ll have to move all mg decor out and replace it once I put more eco earth in ( I realized it wasn’t 6 inches so I need to put more) but I’m scared I’ll hurt them cuz idk if they will move once I take everything out tank I don’t want to crush them. If someone actually read this thank u and please help

When you say 'dirt', what is currently in there for substrate?
You can safely add more to the top, but if you have crabs underground, do not mix it up and do not pull anything out that is buried in the substrate. And do not 'pack' it down. Some people will be cautious and only add up to an inch a day.
Be sure your sub is moistened with dechlorinated water so that it will hold it's shape (sand castle consistency) for their tunnels and caves.
