HCA: Hermit Crab Association

hello! I'm in the process of getting back into the hobby right now, and collecting all the supplies I will need. Next on the list is a bubbler for my saltwater and freshwater sources. I was intending to put a bubbler in each one to reduce the amount of water changes I'll need to do. However, I've never had one or used one before. So, can anyone tell me:

1. Do I need two bubblers, one for each tank? or is there a way I can attach two tubes to one bubbler unit, so that I only need one bubbler for the two water sources?

2. Does anyone have any recommendations for bubblers that have worked well for them? I'm guessing that the unit itself, the electrical part, will be outside of the tank. But I don't actually know how that works so if it does need to be inside the tank, it'd need to hold up to high humidity.

3. Any tips anyone might have for bubbler care and cleaning would be awesome. I don't really know what I'm doing with bubblers, so if anyone has any advice, that'd be awesome.

1. You can use one pump for both pools if you split the line. You’ll find the T connecters with the airline supplies.

2. Usually the pump itself sits outside the tank and the airline feeds in. Any small model will do. I used an old Tetra pond pump but newer models will be quieter.

3. They’re pretty low maintenance, just check on the airline and air stones once in while to make sure they’re in working order.

Another note, bubblers don’t necessarily reduce the need for water changes since aeration doesn’t remove ammonia, which accumulates when organic matter gets into the water. They can help raise humidity, though, through increased evaporation.
