Relocating To A Bigger Tank

Post by bluecelticgirl » Tue Oct 25, 2022 10:04 am

Hello! This is my first question posted here. I have enjoyed reading all of your helpful information and kind support of one another. I am learning so much and appreciate this group! I brought home three small crabs a week ago. They are doing well so far. I have a four inch substrate of play sand and EE in a ten gallon tank, soaking pools of salt water and fresh water, extra shells, two huts, and climbing toys. I am feeding them hermit crab food and offering veggies, fruits, egg shells and other various treats. I can tell they are soaking and eating, and I have seen them exploring and climbing. The larger of the three changed shells last night. The larger one ( Mowgli), also dug down and destressed for about three days, but is now coming out at sunset. My question is this. I want to upgrade them to a 20 gallon tank with more room. How long should I wait to do this since they have only been in their first “ home” with me for a week. Is it better to give them more time, or give them more room asap. Thanks! Their names are Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera.

Welcome!
You can move them whenever you want and they are all above ground. If you have the ability to keep both tanks at proper temp and humidty etc, you can take your time. But if you only have heat etc for one tank, and they are all above ground now, go ahead and move them before anyone digs underground! Because if one is down, you might have to wait weeks or months until they come back up.

Thank you so much! I will wait until they are all on the surface. Mowgli still likes to dig down during the day, but comes out each evening.
