How to introduce a new crab to the tank?

Hello!

I’m adopting two small hermits (PPs) that I found on Facebook marketplace. From the pictures, it looks like they haven’t been living in an ideal habitat. There’s no thermometer or hydrometer and the substrate is very shallow and only sand. The owner is selling me the crabs with their habitat.

I’ve lost crabs to PPS in the past, and I’m worried they’ll die if I put them directly into my crabitat. Should I keep them in their old crabitat for a few days before transitioning them? What’s the best way to get them into their new home while causing the least possible stress?

Thanks for reading, I appreciate the help!

Hi!
You want to get the crabbies into good conditions right away. I just give my newbies a quick dip in the freshwater to make them smell like the current environment to the rest of the crabbies.

Excellent advice! Some people dip both the new and the old in the fresh water.
